Market Transparency Unit for Fuels is well under way

12.08.2013

The Bundeskartellamt's efforts to set up its new Market Transparency Unit are well under way. Around 1,000 oil companies have registered so far, and basic data for more than 12,500 of the approx.14,500 German petrol stations are being collected as the authority will start to register the first interested information service providers this week.

Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt: "We are well under way with our preparations. The large majority of German petrol stations have already been connected to the system. There are some minor hitches in some cases. However, we are confident that a comprehensive market coverage can be achieved and tested during the next few weeks, and that the Market Transparency Unit will be able to start operating in summer this year. Of course we continue to rely on the active co-operation of all the companies involved.

We have also received positive feedback from information service providers. As soon as the data are coming in on a regular basis, consumers will be able to choose from different apps and other offers."
