Case summary from 7 March 2022: Merger between RTL and SuperRTL cleared (Decision of 11 June 2021)

The Bundeskartellamt has cleared the planned full acquisition of the joint venture RTL Disney Fernseh-en GmbH & Co. KG (SuperRTL) by Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA (corporate division RTL Group) in the first phase of merger control. RTL already holds 50 per cent of the shares in the children’s TV channel SuperRTL and intends to acquire the remaining 50 per cent from the current co-shareholder Disney.
