Bundeskartellamt concludes "rail case" with fine imposed on Vossloh Laeis

10.03.2016

The Bundeskartellamt has imposed a fine of just under 3.5 million euros on the company Vossloh Laeis GmbH, Trier.

Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt: "During the period from 2001 to 2011 Vossloh Laeis concluded agreements with other companies on the supply of rails and switches to the detriment of local public transport companies, private, regional and industrial railway companies and construction companies. The aim of the agreements was to divide up tenders and projects among the members of the cartel. This last case concludes the proceedings we initiated on suspicion of cartel agreements in the market for track construction material."

In the same proceedings fines totalling almost 100 million euros were already imposed in July 2013 on eight companies by way of settlement (see press release of 23.07.2013). However, no settlement could be reached with Vossloh Laeis.

The company cooperated with the Bundeskartellamt during the course of the proceedings within the framework of the authority's leniency programme. In calculating the fine the authority took this cooperation into account.

The fine imposed is not yet final and can be appealed to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court.
