At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, German athletes and their sponsors will benefit from wider advertising options secured by the Bundeskartellamt in a previous proceeding.
DFL’s marketing model for Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches
The Bundeskartellamt has largely completed its examination of the marketing model based on which Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) intends to sell the media rights to Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches from the 2025/26 season onwards. The parties involved will now have the opportunity to comment on the Bundeskartellamt’s preliminary assessment. The authority has taken the preliminary view that it can tolerate DFL implementing the model as presented and has informed DFL accordingly.
The Bundeskartellamt has initiated proceedings against a total of six municipal utilities and district heating suppliers on the suspicion of abusively excessive price increases in the period from January 2021 to September 2023. In particular, the authority is examining the concrete implementation of so-called price adjustment clauses.
