Series of papers on "Competition and Consumer Protection in the Digital Economy"
With this new series of concise and easily comprehensive papers the Bundeskartellamt would like to further the public debate on topical competition policy issues in the digital world and give new impetus to the debate about the interfaces between digitalisation, competition and consumer protection.
I: "Big Data und Wettbewerb"(German version)
The first paper in the series deals with "Big Data and Competition." It explains the specifics of digital, data-based markets and the role which data plays in competitive analysis. The paper also addresses the importance of data protection issues for competition law proceedings.
This paper sketches the development of online advertising from a simple banner to the diverse advertising products available to day and then classifies the most common types of online advertising. The importance of online advertising as an economic sector is then explained based on turnover figures and, finally, current issues of relevance to this sector which may have an impact on competition processes are outlined.
IV: "Wettbewerbsbeschränkungen im Internetvertrieb nach Coty und Asics – wie geht es weiter?" (German version)
Competition restraints in online sales after Coty and Asics - what’s next? (English version)
